Condoms can not prevent unwanted pregnancies or sexually transmitted diseases, if not used properly. Unfortunately, a new review of medical literature reveals that the errors with condoms is very common.

Some of the most common is to use a condom after starting intercourse or removed before it was completed, but the unfolding before installation.

Many men also place it in a way that leaves the edge of space to accommodate the sperm, while others do not check before they put it to see if it is robust.

Such errors increase the risk of leakage or rupture of the condom, according to the review, published in the journal «Sexual Health».

"The use of condom is much more complex than we think and mistakes are not only rare," says researcher Dr. Richard Crosby, professor and director of the Department of Health Behaviors of College of Public Health, University of Kentucky.

If the condom is used correctly, is 98% effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy, according to the World Health Organization. Typically, however, the rates of unwanted pregnancies with condom use ranging around 15%.

Researchers led by Dr. Stephanie Sanders of the Foundation Study of Sex, Gender and the Reproduction of Kinsey of Indiana University, analyzed all studies for the mistakes with condoms conducted since 1995.

A total of 50 studies that were conducted were in 14 countries, the majority have been in the U.S. and Britain.

The studies included various groups of volunteers from married women and prostitutes to students, leading to identify many different errors.

Before ejaculation

One of the most important as regards the protective power of condoms, their use was at the beginning of intercourse and just before ejaculation – a tactic that said the following percentage from 17% to 51.1% of volunteers, depending on study.

This approach cancels the power of the condom to protect against sexually transmitted diseases, because exchanging body fluids occurs throughout the duration of sex and not only during ejaculation.

Many were the mistakes in the placement of condoms. Up to 25.3% of respondents said they unfold the condom before putting it on the penis, rather than unravel on him.

Nearly half said they also apply it without leaving space at the edge of the sperm.Furthermore, 75% men and 82% of women said they never check the condom is robust, before using it.

Other mistakes

The study also showed that:

* The earn early. Up to 44.7% of respondents in the studies said they take out the condom before finishing intercourse.

* Lets air. Almost half of women (48.1%) and 41.6% of men said they do not make the air from the tip of the condom.

* Incorrect storage conditions. Up to 19.1% of respondents store condoms in conditions other than recommendations listed on their packages.

Consequences

With all these mistakes in the use inevitably the new study revealed that problems are very common rupture, leakage and slippage of condoms:

* Up to 40.7% of respondents said that has happened to break a condom during sex.

* Up to 19.3% of respondents said they have slipped a condom during sex and has left his position.

* Up to 7.6% of men and 12.5% ​​of women said that has happened to leak semen from the condom.
